The textile ?clothing sector remains a strategic one in Tunisia. It is the first manufacturing activity with regard to jobs, exports and investments. The sector comprises, as of today, 2079 industrial units and employs more than 200.000 people. 80 % of them, ie 1519 units, are totally devoted to exports. On the overall, industry enterprises are of a small scale: 71 % of them employ less then 100 people. Manufacturing clothes in woof and stitch stays the main activity of the clothing sector. It accounts for 90 % of exports and 80 % of jobs. The textile sector comprises 260 units operating in the fields of spinning, weaving, knitting and finishing.
